Camoin Method of Tarot Reading
or "the Variant of Le Bateleur"
The variant of placing cards downward is based on Le Bateleur, the Juggler. He is earthly and his regard is downward.
In the downward spread, the solution cards are placed below the problem card (reversed card).
When I began to teach the Tarot, I almost always used this method in my courses.
Indeed, in this period, the world was very materialist and the questions of students were as well.
The energies of this variant were therefore appropriate to the time.
In the year 2000, in Europe, I began to publicly use the upward spread because the European public was undergoing a change in consciousness.
In Japan, we continued to use the downward spread because it was much more well-suited to the demands and needs of the Japanese. The upward spread was only taught to advanced students there.
